Two persons have been confirmed dead and three others critically injured following a multi-vehicle collision involving a Dangote Silo Mixer Truck at Iyana Meiran, Lagos.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the crash occurred along Meiran Road, near the Primary Health Centre (PHC), after the mixer truck reportedly suffered brake failure while travelling at high speed. The truck was said to have veered out of control, ramming into a commercial mini-bus and four tricycles.
The impact left several vehicles badly damaged, with passengers trapped inside the wreckage. LASTMA personnel, with the support of passersby, carried out rescue operations and extricated three victims who sustained critical injuries. The injured were taken to Mobonke Hospital, Meiran Road, for urgent medical attention.
The bodies of the two deceased victims were handed over to officers of the Nigeria Police for further investigation and necessary arrangements.
Security operatives from the Meiran Police Division were also deployed to the scene to support rescue efforts and manage traffic flow along the busy corridor, which experienced temporary disruption.
According to LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, the driver of the mixer truck reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident.
The agency has urged motorists, particularly operators of heavy-duty and haulage vehicles, to ensure that their braking systems and other critical mechanical components are regularly inspected and certified as roadworthy. LASTMA also stressed the need for strict compliance with government-approved speed limits to reduce the risk of similar incidents and improve safety on Lagos roads.
