A containerised vehicle was gutted by fire on the Ojota Bridge near the Old Toll Gate in Lagos on Tuesday afternoon, though traffic movement in the area remained largely unaffected.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the incident occurred at about 12:00 p.m., prompting the immediate deployment of emergency responders to the scene.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, LASTMA confirmed that the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other emergency services were alerted and mobilised promptly.
Firefighters battled the blaze, while the LASTMA Rescue and Recovery Team was deployed to coordinate traffic control and facilitate the removal of the affected vehicle.
According to the agency, a high-capacity tow truck was also deployed to aid recovery operations and ensure the swift clearance of the bridge.
Motorists were advised to exercise caution and comply with traffic directives during the emergency operations, noting that traffic flow was not significantly disrupted at the time of the incident.
The incident occurred a day after a high-capacity commercial bus caught fire on the Third Mainland Bridge, causing significant traffic disruptions for commuters travelling towards the Iyana Oworo axis of Lagos
